Lake Tahoe in the central eastern Sierra Nevada range is one of the jewels of the range, ringed by high peaks, abutted by the Desolation Wilderness, and containing spectacularly clear water. It also is host to great downhill skiing, with the Heavenly resort offering a nice lookout at 9,200' overlooking the southeast tip of the lake. A 277-image, 1.7 gigapixel narrow field image was shot there, days before the first big snowfall of the season. Another smaller 66-image mosaic was taken of beautiful Emerald Bay at dusk, with solitary Fanette Island in shadow.
