In summer ‘06 xRez set out to capture the sandstone walls of Zion Canyon in gigapixel resolution. Two locations were clear choices for vantage points of the canyon, Angel’s Landing and Observation Point. Hauling gear up the precipitous knife-edge of the approach ridge to the Landing provided exciting if otherwise routine. Once on top, we shot a spherical gigapixel oriented northward towards the Big Bend and the Narrows, and a 206-image narrow-field high density of the impressive face of the White Throne. Observation Point provided a driver’s seat view of the canyon, with an interesting variation tried by shooting in the infrared spectrum with a modified digital Canon back. Shots of the valley proved interesting in this format, and it is good to see infrared return again to photographers in the digital arena. Ace photographer and cohort Travis Price shot plenty of fine examples here. Team Members: Eric Hanson, Greg Downing, Travis Price.
